What Lakes are Near Lakewood B&B and Fishing Zones :

•  Lough Muckno:

Is Located in the centre of Castleblayney, Co.Monaghan. It is 15mins drive from Carrickmacross on the N2. It has many islands, the size is 325 hectares with depths to 20 mand it has produced many pike over 30 lbs in weight. Many more fish of different size pike, which are there because of the good head of Bream, Roach, Rudd, Perch and Trout. It is good for lure fishing, Fly-fishing and Bait fishing. It is easy to access.

•  Lough Na Glack Ballatrain:

Which is so located on the Dundalk road.Is a sister lake of Monalty lake.This water is well developed and covers12 hectares with depths to 7m located in N.E of the lake.Depths elsewhere in the lake range from 3m to 5m.All with Good stocks of fish and is around 10mins drive from Carrickmacross.

•  Monalty Lake :

Is located 3km S.E of Carrickmacross on the Dundalk road.This is a small lake of 16 hectares with depths to 6 m.Some local fishermen fish from small punts moored to platforms in the lake and boatfishing can produce the best result as the mobility allows the angler to locate the feeding shoals. It holds a Great head of Pike up to 30 lbs also, which is supported by the good river system flowing into it. It also contains Tench, Bream, Hybrids, Perch, Roach and Trout. It is easy to access for launching boats and its just 5mins drive from Carrickmacross.

•  Lough Sillan:

Lough Sillan is located in 15mins drive from Carrickmacross. It is 162. Hectares.This is another good Lake that holds

a Good head of Pike up to 30 lbs. A good head of course fish of Bream, Roach, Hybrids, Perch and Trout. This lake has good access for boats and shore fishing.

•  Lough Ross:

Lies about a mile west of Crossmaglen and is accessed on the Souther side off the Castleblayney- Dundalk road.This is approximately 15mins drive from Carrickmacross.the lake covers an aera of 88 hectares . Fantastic water with many big Pike of all sizes. It's supported by a good river system, which holds Trout, Bream, Roach and Perch. This is another excellent fly-fishing water and easy access for a boat.

As you can see there are many other smaller lakes around Carrickmacross for example:
Greagh Lore, Descart Lake, Rahans Lake, Balyhoe Lakes, Cortstown Lake, Ervery Lake. A lot of these smaller lakes are great for fly-fishing. There is also Liskaness Lake , which is located in Carrickmacross town. It has good platforms. Species of fish are Tench, Bream, Rudd and also carponer of 20 lbs
